Redress Scotland’s Response:
The number of victims of abuse at Celtic Football Club
There are 2 separate organisations involved in the redress scheme – the Scottish Government casework team who support applicants to put together applications and arrange for payments, and Redress Scotland who are the independent body who oversee decision making on completing applications.
Redress Scotland does not hold information about the number of applications that describe abuse in each individual setting. However, the remit of the scheme is to provide redress for those who suffered abuse while in care. Under the legislation, abuse within a football club is likely only to have been relevant for the scheme if the applicant, while visiting the club, remained under the care of a person who provided residential accommodation for them or someone authorised by that person.

As Redress Scotland does not hold information on the numbers of applications that describe abuse in individual settings, it is not possible to provide a figure for this.
