Redress Scotland panel member awarded King’s Police Medal in King’s New Year Honors

Redress Scotland panel member Andy Freeburn has been awarded the King’s Police Medal (KPM) for his significant contribution to policing.

He joined Redress Scotland in April 2025, following his retirement after 32 years of distinguished service in policing.

Andy served as an Assistant Chief Constable with Police Scotland, holding the national portfolio for organised crime, counter-terrorism, intelligence, and cyber investigations. In this role, he also chaired the Operational Board at the Scottish Crime Campus in Gartcosh, coordinating the strategic partnership response to serious and organised crime. Andy began his senior leadership career with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, where he served as District Commander for Belfast.

Speaking about his award, Andy said:

“It was a lovely surprise, and I feel deeply humbled and honoured to have been nominated. I was privileged to serve alongside such incredible people, not only within Police Scotland but across partner agencies. This award is a tribute to their hard work and tireless efforts to keep the people of Scotland safe.

I was very pleased to join Redress Scotland following my career in policing, so that I could continue to contribute to public service. The values of Redress Scotland and the professionalism of its people ensure that survivors are central to all that we do, and it is a privilege be part of this work”.
